So it looks like Bush has won. This is not confirmed but everyone seems to be assuming it. It was almost a forgone conclusion from the start in many ways, though in no way do I say that as a compliment to anyone.
One thing this election has done though is increased my respect for Osama Bin-Laden. Ok, he’s a murderer, and a general force of “evil”, if there is such a thing (certainly in GWB’s simple mind it seems there is), however most important in this context is that he is very clever. The US is not dealing with a simple Arab, they are dealing with an Oxford educated, intelligent man. It is to his clear advantage, as previously described, to have Bush win the election, to increase membership of his organisation and allow him to carry on his agenda and so at the last minute, soon before the voting proper is to begin, he released a video of himself, knowing full well that the effect of this would be to give Bush a sudden surge in popularity. Would the result have been the same had this video not have been released? Who knows. It is clear that it was a cynical ploy, and that the American public understands all too poorly how easily it is being manipulated.
Ah the election
